Quite right.
The psychological portrait of a troll is such a not very smart person who has a large complex of ambitions and self-conceit. He only needs to be discussed, or rather, as a rule, condemned for his actions and statements. Trolling is basically impossible if you don't answer. But often indignation prevails and the opponent cannot contain his feelings, and this continues. Better to overcome yourself and not answer.
That's putting too much work analyzing a troll but you are right, for me though to keep it simple I just always remember the old Internet adage which is "Don't feed the trolls".
