My gambling comes down to betting on football games... It's mostly the games I'm interested in... I bet for fun (to confirm my predictions), I have no goal to earn money... That's why I don't spend much time doing it and I am not addicted to gambling...
You may not have the goal to earn money with your bets but that's a given reason why most of us are having fun and enjoying gambling. You may say that you have no goal to earn but you don't also want to keep on losing because it's very frustrating. Next to that reason is the potential to double or at least get some profit with our bets. But since the main topic is all about time in gambling, you are doing it correctly that you don't spend your time that much and just leaving your bets and checks it once the match is done and you have no problem whether your bet won or not.
If you consider gambling as trading, there are still ways for you to make money. Yet, I do not encourage that activity because not many of you capable to limit your time and money so as not to fail in the addicted trap. For example, just like you say, we can make a few sport bet in a day (or a week if you do not like to involve with many games) and we only comeback to see the results. Make a spreadsheet of winning and losing matches with algorithm to manage your funds. With deep analysis, being profitable in sport betting is possible. The same method can be used with poker. Other games (such as dice or crash) do not provide the same winning percentage because of the higher house edge and less positive outcome
