you can use your 24 seed word to get your coins off of the blockchain.
Well, kind of. You will always be able to use your seed phrase to recover your private keys, which will allow you to spend/transfer/move your coins, but you never take your coins "off" the blockchain. All coins are always on the blockchain; the only thing you have in your hardware wallet is the private keys which correspond to those coins.
