It is gmaxwell and achow101 who spreading fake news regarding taproot lock-in when the second signaling period is not even ended and clearly isn't locked in.
What do I have to do with any of this?
The tweet by Adam Back (not an American BTW) that you linked to seems clear enough to me: It says lock in is *coming* not that it is here yet and it quotes a tweet saying "~95% the hashrate fully signaling for Taproot, so Taproot should lock in during the next signaling period", what is the problem with any of that? It sounds completely correct to me. What do you think isn't correct about it?
they celebrating that Chinese miners shutting down and so the remaining western miners can push for taproot.
No large miners have shut down currently, Chinese miners have upgraded their software and are signaling for taproot too. I'm not aware of anyone celebrating anything related to chinese miners shutting off, nor am I aware of any reason that them shutting off (or not shutting off) would impact taproot activation.
You need in one period 2016 blocks to signal. Excuse me but you can't just run this periods over and over until everyone signals taproot. It is absurd and undemocratic.
Bitcoin is a decentralized system, there is no way to coordinate everyone upgrading at exactly the same time to start signaling. As a result the process has to go on for a bit of time, in this case between April 24th and roughly August 11th.
You're correct that having multiple shots at activation makes something more likely to activate, but that is part of why the threshold is 90% and not 50%. I believe that if the threshold was 50% it would have been achieved in the first window-- even though the software for it was released only a day or so before the start.
Maybe you are making the error of thinking the blocks which didn't signal were somehow against taproot-- so now you think there was some sudden reversal? That would be an error: they simply weren't updated to participate in taproot signaling yet. They've upgraded now.
