Can anyone explain the interest payout here? It's only a 1 sat difference, but I just don't get it?

there is 4.08% annual interest, you have to divide by a month and a day, but if you still confusing about that, maybe you have to read in the FAQ I quote;

Daily interest will be calculated at a random time everyday @ 0.0109589% per day

Sure, sure, but how do I get less interest when I have a higher balance?

This has also happened to me before. I think it is a rounding thing. If they credit you with the precise amount it would be 9.8 satoshis. Since satoshis is the lowest denomination for bitcoin they can't give you a fraction so they end up giving you an extra sat every few days.

No you are wrong freebitco.in doesn't give extra sats AFAIK. It rounds to the upper number some days but rounds to the lower number the other days. Hence if you compute the rolling average of the daily interests earned on several days(10 days for example) you will certainly get the exepected number of satoshis earned.
