All of the cryptocurrencies adhere to the 5 properties and 3 functions of money. They each also attempt to solve one or more real-world problems.
All of the cryptocurrencies do not adhere to any function or property. Infact, a vast majority if cryptocurrencies are shitcoins with no real world value and no solution to any problem, but they were created by devs who wish to make some bucks out of the crypto space.
Well the pre-2015 dev's and crypto-kids were cool, there was a philosophy, but post 2014 the majority of BITCOIN cultists are moron fanatics, who are destined to die in poverty.
Purpose of 'digital money' was to create a new 'fiat' that couldnt' be dilluted, but that failed with the 10k shitcoins and doubling them every six months.
Perception is what it is, if BTC fails then its BCH, or BGLD, or the 1,000 BTC-Clone shit-coins that all say "BITCOIN" will take its place, people don't care so long as the next new thing 'goes to the moon', HODL on morons, all the way to poverty.
The problem is the founders ain't around anymore, and the current ownership of BITCOIN is the kleptocrats, so same as its always been, just witness the push for POS, so that only the Oligarchs can control BTC, it didn't even matter that at one time in 2009 BTC was egalitarian, the arseholes captivated BTC years ago, I think the WInkelvoss screw-heads are the poster boyz for the greed that has become 'bitcoin'.
The original BTC was "F**K U" to the system, today BTC-core and all the shit-coins brag about who comply's better with KYC, and who works best with the IRS, our exchanges are just collection booths for the treasury, most influential positions in BTC are now all occupied by US-GOV hacks.
I would say that BITCOIN is long dead and now a ZOMBIE, but that's ok, most USA corporations are also zombies.
