If you convert to other cryptocurrencies you could actually "give yourself" more coins with staking or yields etc.
But, you're not cheating the system, it's the mechanism that changes. With the same reasoning, you could give yourself more coins by calculating some SHA256 hashes; you aren't creating coins by changing some input values and you're not cheating the system.
