There have been concerns that some people might use sockpuppets to report their own posts in order to get a reporter badge.
There are more than enough
bad posts on the forum already, finding them must be faster than creating bad posts for the purpose of reporting them.
I think it is time to give some kind of recognization to these people.

Sorry for the wait, when I went to implement this it ended up being quite a bit more of a can of worms than I originally thought because of opting out, preventing certain report-count-padding strategies, etc. It's still on my to-do list, but there are several things above it.
add additional hidden criteria for the various badges, such as posts or threads originally to be in a sufficiently diverse number of subs, or that the result of a report is that the post or thread is sufficiently diverse outcome of removing the post/thread, moving the thread, or editing the post.
Considering the "can of worms" it was already, I don't think adding more criteria is going to make the introduction of reporter badges more likely.
