Respect to Salvador and it's president but one thing confuses me - will it be safe enough to hold bitcoin on the wallet built and controlled by government? I still believe that governments and hackers are the main threats to crypto community, may be I'm wrong putting them in a row.
But, once they send them to your wallet, you can do whatever you want. You could send them to your eclair wallet through LN and thus, you'd ensure that the government won't rip you off.

Hopefully, the fees won't skyrocket as people there try to spend their BTC because in that case, they might not be able to use their BTC due to transactions costing more than they got from the government.
They transact off-chain with LN; whether they make one or one thousand transactions, they'll pay roughly the same fee.

Since Jack Mallers' Strike is one of the main drivers of Bitcoin adoption in El Salvador, I guess we could safely guarantee that they will be using Lightning wallets.
We can't expand the adoption otherwise. Imagine broadcasting a transaction for every El Salvador citizen. They possibly could not afford the whole package.  Tongue
