Let's say Satoshi was a group, it would seem there is only one spokeperson who posted on the forums, as the posts are consistent up until he or she or they disappeared. So maybe he was working with a group but the main character is the only one posting as a single entity.

But doesn't explain why they haven't moved their stash of BTC though! Smiley

There are two simple explanations for that:

1. Satoshi died.
2. He deleted access to the wallets / never had access to them / mining computer nuked / did not care for value.

It's quite possible someone has more than enough money to resist the urge trying to cash out a few billion dollars worth of bitcoin, but that's unlikely.

I assume this will be a specter that haunts us forever...  Well, we can sort of hope so at least.  Because the other options are all scarier.

I am sure you have done the same thought experiments.

Coins from Satoshi address move with no warning:  Eek.  This will most likely cause a huge price crash. Even if "Satoshi" appears to explain it it will be a little scary.

Satoshi posts the intent to sell/move coins.  Several interesting scenarios here.  I think the most interesting scenario would be if he were to move those coins to a known burn address (1111111111111111111114oLvT2 for example)  That could cause some fairly crazy price swings, but would arguable end in a gain.

Satoshi is either dead, or lost the keys are has the god like willpower to not spend.  I feel like there are very few people with the tactical wisdom strong enough to know that he must play this exactly right.  I still wonder about Szabo.  He is one of the few who I think has the correct alignments for this...

It is a part of it, no matter what...
