Some club owners don't care if they lose a good player on a free transfer or not they just want players to keep to their words and keep to the contract agreement at least if you signed 5 years they expected you to renew and if not let your 5 years be 5 years. PSG are not ready to lose their star players just yet in fact they are recruiting more in an attempt to win the champions league for the first time
For sure when you sign a 5-year contract the club owner/ management expects to have you for 5 years and basically, invest in you. That's something quite understandable. What it isn't, at least from my point of view, is what you will gain/ get from someone that doesn't want to "work" for you anymore? Are you gamble that he will turn his mind? Maybe even convince him that this will be the year by winning the CL?
