I don't think Ethereum will replace Bitcoin, since most cryptocurrencies rely on Bitcoin as the reserve cryptocurrency of the market. Besides, Ethereum is not decentralized as Bitcoin is. The pioneer cryptocurrency is still "king" when it comes to providing decentralized and censorship-resistant payments to the world. Ethereum is inflationary by design, with a lesser number of nodes and miners supporting its blockchain network.

Let's face it, no altcoin will be able to replace Bitcoin unless a coin provides a revolutionary technology that will put Blockchain in the dust. I'm okay with Bitcoin being the leader of crypto, as long as it remains decentralized. Instead of focusing on "beating" Bitcoin, projects should focus on working together to make our world a better place. Every altcoin contributes towards the development of Blockchain tech, so everybody wins in the long run. Just my thoughts
