My university also closed in mid-March, lectures re-started shortly after, online, which isn't even remotely close to being in class. It's been over 1.5 years, and we are expected to open in October, unless anything provocative happens. Exams are also conducted online, with a few professors making it extremely difficult to pass.
With delta strain spreading rapidly, don't have high hopes on colleges and schools opening by October. I won't be surprised if they remain closed till the beginning of next year. And the winter season in northern hemisphere will start in around two months, and the chances are that the infection will spread further when the temperature goes down. Even in countries that have achieved >50% vaccination (US, UK.etc), we are now witnessing a sharp spike in the number of infections. And in most of the countries, the vaccination hasn't yet started for those below 18 years.
