I think thread this should be moved to the reputation board since it has more something to do with your current reputation than it has something to do with the forum it self.
Banning for plagiarism is a Meta subject:
33. Posting plagiarized content is not allowed.
It strikes me as odd though: This rule is literally at the bottom of the list, but it's (almost) the only one that gets you an instant ban. Most of the other rules can be broken countless times without real consequences.
It's almost 3 years ago when
theymos made a draft for a welcome message, which still hasn't been implemented. Bitcointalk uses academic standards on plagiarism, while most of the internet doesn't care. So although technically correct, I think some users deserve at least a heads up instead of an instant ban, and that's why
I sent OP a PM about it.
I wrote this a month ago:
At least it proves he spent effort on the post. That's what makes kxwhalexk stand out from the lazy (or even automated) copy/pasting to reach signature targets (which made me start this thread 4 years ago).
I barely see those cases anymore, so I'd say Bitcointalk is better now. But as "
Is Bitcointalk.org losing user base?" shows, we need users too

And I think we should be careful not to ban users for mistakes. I can't emphasize enough how unique Bitcointalk is on banning users for plagiarism. And although that makes perfect sense when it's a lazy way to earn from a signature campaign, I believe (some) users deserve a heads up first.
I started
my plagiarism thread more than 4 years ago because of this:
i have two questions, when the next distribution will be? and can i link the same bitcoin address to another byteball address for the next distribution or i need more bitcoin linked with new address?
i have two questions, when the next distribution will be? and can i link the same bitcoin address to another byteball address for the next distribution or i need more bitcoin linked with new address
That's the kind of plagiarism we should get rid of. But if it wouldn't for spammers like this, posts like the one oHnK made wouldn't even draw anyone's attention. It's what I would call normal forum usage.
I barely see such bad cases anymore, so the forum got a lot better. That makes me think we shouldn't use the ban hammer that was meant for plagiarising spambots against real users who don't know any better.
Just a thought: Isn't it weird plagiarism on pictures is okay? Half the forum (including me) would be banned otherwise!
