If you hover the cursor on the number of the users - you can see the phrase “Total users online”, which makes clear that the given number is about the number of users online on the platform, not users in the chat.
In addition, the presented version of the chat on the site is a version for additional development. You can see in our roadmap that new functionality (tips, rains, personalization) will soon be presented that will make it more convenient to communicate on the platform.
