could be CPU mined, there would just be no point;) Shacoin is SHA256 and is ASIC only if you ever want to see any coins.
The advantage to shacoin is that most of the coins will be generated using POS, so if you buy some coins now and hold them, you will be receiving dividends into perpetuity without mining at all.
