I intend to purchase some BTCs/ETHs into my blockchain wallet but I'm still sceptical about which of the coins is better and won't fall below the water. I am asking this because I don't understand how the cryptocurrency market works yet.

It is difficult to easily understand how the crypto market actually works. It takes a lot of experience to understand that.
Bitcoin is the number one crypto in the world and its price is much lower now. So I would advise you to hold in Bitcoin.
