Actually, the ad is displayed under the first post of every single page within a thread,
 so a single thread that drives interest and views is going to print way more ads than having many threads that lack interest (and therefore lack vies). Take the Wall Observer thread for example: a single thread with currently 29.509 pages and 590.164 posts is going to beat the hell out of 29.509 created threads with no interest.

Creating thread per se does not help. Creating or posting in interesting threads, that drive view is.
