Do you work in a city? Houses in the city can be really expensive compared to small town or rural areas. You could use the amount for city house to get yourself a house with large land to do other business like farming/rearing animals. This depends on where you live though.. . I guess there are countries with strict rules on rearing animals close to home or something.
By the way, it's not a good idea to consider living long-term in the cities thesedays.  People who dwell in that kind of settings will be controlled or go through serious challenges in not-too-distant future.
I personally prefer a nomadic lifestyle...and that will definitely be for a purpose o was designed for.
