So I was thinking. There seems to be constant struggle for 'bitcoin privacy' but is it privacy we want or anonymity or both?
The bitcoin blockchain is transparent and available to the public which should make anonymity not possible, but pseudonymity in which bitcoin transactions are not linked to the right owner is possible which is pseudonymity. People that still want privacy can have it, there are still people that do not make use of centralized services and doing all possible to have the privacy they want.
Just that majority of bitcoin users nowadays do not care about privacy while many do not even know how pseudonymity is linked to bitcoin, that is why people are using wallets that has no coin control and yet making use of IP address which can make the possibility of connecting them to their real identity possible.
Also to have privacy, many people can not afford to run their own full node, while runing full node using Tor can help to have privacy, most people are using SPV wallets even with IP address. This makes privacy not possible for many.
What I noticed also are traders that depends more on centralized exchanges, this kind of people do not have any, nothing like privacy neither anything like pseudonymity. They have their kyc on centralized exchanges that can be linked to their real identity.
For me for a lot of things I do privacy is just not going to happen. I am US based, use regulated exchanges, and am part of a signature campaign that has a public spreadsheet.
Ways to privacy is costly, but just like you commented, if you use Tor to access this forum, joining campaign does not mean you gave up your privacy, you you can still make use of mixers to have the privacy you want. But making use of centralized exchanges makes privacy and pseudonymity not possible.
What I just know is that people because of convenience are giving up not to have privacy. But the worst of all are centralized exchanges, especially data breach is worst and has been scammers means to attack victims and steal from them. It might later in the future for to the point scammers will be visiting homes and having physical attacks.
