summary of conversations i have had with many nigerians over the years about their country

the politics of nigeria is complicated.

when the US came in and helped with "food aid" and other support. it didnt create independence and peace. it created dependants and anger.

nigerian farmers could not sell their own crops, because UN aid was giving people food for free. other charities and international organisations provided wells, clothing and education. causing there to be no domestic growth independently.. no help to have sustainable economy in the community. locals didnt get trained to be well engineers. instead foreigners turned up fitted a well and walked away. meaning employment of locals was non-existant.
this then resulted in alot of farmers selling or losing their land to foreign companies. causing mass emigration and also mass eviction. leaving locals owning no land and having no home to call their own.. then circling to then have more foreign "food aid" multiplying the problem over and over and over.

anger erupted and rebellion and riots and wars began.. even in-fighting amungst themselves fighting for land and supplies

the only entry level government jobs were to join the police/military. where most of their orders were to protect the interested of the NGO's and private business acquisitions. where they were ordered to hand out eviction notices and throw people out of their own lands. where if they did not they would lose their jobs.

yep foreign aid and foreign involvement have negative affects. totally forgetting the saying "teach a man to fish" and instead applying the "give a man a fish"(and leave that man to fight his neighbours to keep that fish).. leaving locals to then not be self sustainable and then fighting each other over limited fish supplies. blaming each other for wanting fish rather then seeing the cause of their problems

governments didnt invest in its citizens to set up independent living. instead they accepted donations and greedily kept it themselves at the politician level. getting rich and setting themselves up as untouchable leaders, forgetting about their citizens needs. leaving citizens to be supported by foreign charities

yet now in a state where citizens cant ask their government for help and either have to revolt their government or ask for more foreign support.

yes government help in the cities, but forget about those living outside city borders
