"teach a man to fish" and instead applying the "give a man a fish"(and leave that man to fight his neighbours to keep that fish).. leaving locals to then not be self sustainable and then fighting each other over limited fish supplies. blaming each other for wanting fish rather then seeing the cause of their problems
There is so much truth to that regarding NGOs and unintended consequences and even the perfectly thought out 'for profit' non-profits.
I liked some of the ways local service clubs continued support once an installment went in (solar, wells, ect) however it wasn't like anyone could get a part from a local home improvement store for quick repairs (at the time). Teach a man to fish and make tools.

that was the big issues decades ago. but even now they have not learned
even after the millenium with things like haiti.. NGO's came in donating their time and solar panels to get electricity running, but never teaching locals to be solar engineers. there were even already existing solar companies run ning and employed by haiti locals that never won any contracts.. what happened was the grid was reset, and the NGO's moved out and the towns then relying on the NGO's for maintenance under the NGO warrenty meaning local engineers yet again didnt get hired for ainy maintenance/repair/upgrades.

same with iraq, iran and afghanistan. even this year with the pull out of NGO and troops from afghanistan.. just one week later they realised the NGO's needed to go back in and 'support' the country.
20 years in that country and not even got that country to a self sustaining point.

no wonder these countries then get angry at the west.

colonisation, and then eviction of the locals and then calling in charities to compensate the homeless with 'free aid' and then just leaving once the resources dry up do not help the country in any way.

yes these NGO's pretend to be non political. yet they happily give lots of money to the government and help create greedy politicians. yes NGO's pretend to be non profit. but this just means whatever budget they have, they have to spend every penny of it and leave nothing left at the next accounting period. so yes they just hand money out like its confetti

lots of things need to change to set things right. but instead of setting things right. they just go full circle again.
nigeria has to do alot to change to avoid repeating the same circle again. and that can only be done.. not by protest. but actually use the political tools.
citizens that want to protest should shift their plans into structured action. petitions, lawsuits and lobbying. play using the governments tools. the same way NGO groups got their changes they want
NGO's didnt push their way into nigeria with protests and guns. they done it with legal actions, petitions and lobbying..
