Extra protection will absolutely help. The site needs to upgrade the software and enable 2fa.  Those are features I can use to increase my own security. As you mentioned.
This site obviously needs increased protection. I have never seen a site with so many hackers and a bounty to hack the site. WHY? Just upgrade and add 2fa.
