If anything, CBDCs most likely are worse than today's fiat currency.
In terms of privacy, they are definitely worse than what we have today and there should be no doubt about that. Most people, however, do not value their privacy so much that they would be concerned that it will be further reduced when one day CBDCs become a reality. China has gone the furthest in that direction, and other countries, as far as I know, are currently making some plans when it comes to their digital currencies.
From the EU plans discussed at the forum, the digital euro should not become a reality before 2025, and even when it can be used, it will not completely replace the classic euro so everyone will be limited with the amount they will be able to have in their digital wallet.
