Most people use Bitcoin. It is the most popular cryptocurrency. But Bictoin is overvalued. Many altcoins raise more than Bitcoin.

Bitcoin has a limited value and it growth in long-term. That is why for long term investment people use bitcoin.
But for trading and speculations altcoins better because they are more volatile.
