Recent news reports are stating up to 90 Premier League players, backroom staff and officials have tested positive for COVID-19 in the most recent wave of tests which means the future of this season (2021/22) is already in doubt.
It also stated 16% of Premier League players have not been vaccinated (which has to be a personal individual choice rather than the UK government not offering them double doses and the booster) but that might be unconnected to the latest positive test statistics.
I hope the season will not be cancelled because this is an exciting season where there are multiple teams in contention to win the EPL and there are multiple teams in contention for the 4th place Champions League spot.
I was already being afraid of this to happen and it looks like a really problematic period of time waiting for the Premier League clubs. Actually, it is not happening only in this league of course. In so many leagues, the number of players who have got covid-19 is increasing as time goes on. It seems like this winter is going to be tough for many clubs. The fixture is going to be tighter than ever before and this would cause the season to end at a later time than it was planned.
If players keep avoiding the vaccination more players and officials will get infected and this will definitely cause a delay in the league matches and more games will keep been postponed to new dates while the affected players get proper treatment and automatically vaccinated. Hope the players understand it would be a more difficult season for them if they keep avoiding the vaccine as the premier league organizers will look forward to drawing new fixtures for matches postponed and this might result in chocking fixtures which will be too tight depriving them enough rest
