I know it's a bit off topic; but is normal for you to use a (,) instead of a (.) to separate between dollars and cents? In the US, we use (.)

Not everywhere. This is unrelated to metric system. Some use apostrophe as the thousand separator (look at NXT official client, for instance) and in France with use no-break space as a thousand separator and comma as decimal separator (hence, we never use the dot). It makes copy and pasting to spreadsheet a complex issue, btw.
