What should you do if your country bans Bitcoin and you want to keep it safe?
Isn't it possible to safely keep your Bitcoin in a cold wallet and then safely access it on the blockchain in a third nation where it's legal in the event that other countries, such as China and Egypt, try
to outlaw the cryptocurrency? Is it possible that something as simple as a cold wallet is insufficient protection?
The fact a country would ban Bitcoin has nothing to do with keeping the funds safe.
Keeping your funds safe means keeping them on a safe wallet where you own the private keys or seed.
Now, there seems to be a misunderstanding. The bitcoins are never in the wallet. They are "on the blockchain".
This means that whoever has the private keys, in whatever country is that, he can spend (transfer to another wallet). Of course, if he has internet.
This means that you can safe a seed or private key even onto a piece of paper and restore your wallet safely in another corner of the world.
Just make sure you have generated the seed/private keys really safe and nobody else can have access to them. Backing them up in e-mail, Dropbox or your desktop is not safe.
Usually people that aren't so much tech savvy buy a hardware wallet for the job. It's not so expensive and it does a good job on generating the wallet safely.
