i always pick up computers by the roadside in a dreamy hope that I can find a lost wallet someday... and it's passcode in a txt file 
I imagine that somewhere in the world a recycling program may be turning those data files into new silicon the tragedy!
But yah would prefer people found them than just a complete annihilation
