For me personally my own gameplay is that matters the most because I have to play according to funds that i have and my own favourite slots and other games so why copy someone else in gambling if results are totally unpredictable? In my opinion as you said making your own paths is best way to proceed in gambling and make some profits along with losses as they can't be avoided.

Playing slot can take more time and money but with our control, we can still enjoy the games and will not try to play longer than we can.
But in gambling games, base luck is not needed to have many things as we only need to click the Roll button, which is different from gambling games-based skills.
