Few years back these both countries were ruling in Field hockey as both were playing against each other but as they stop now both are out and down but still not understanding mean all is now down and out for personal ego.
It was a fact that India and Pakistan had some of the best Hockey players in the world Shahbaz Ahmed, Sohail Abbas and Hassan Sardar from Pakistan where Sohail Abbas was a goal scoring machine and from India Dhanraj Pillay and then the legend himself Dhyan Chand who is globally considered as the greatest Hockey player of all time.
The reason the sport of Hockey is dying is because India and Pakistan consider Cricket as the greatest sport rejecting all other sports and i bet none of the present generation might not know these legendary players i mentioned nor wanted to emulate them and when the Hockey rules were formed India nor Pakistan had a say on the global rules and India and Pakistan players played in grass fields and now the match is conducted in astroturf and hence European and Australia are ruling the Hockey field after that switch.
Although this is a cricket thread and other sports discussion does not mean anything here, however I haven't heard of these two nation focusing on hockey as this game is no more popular. All the interest seems to be in cricket therefore we see cricket being popular with all those leagues and stuff. Don't know which other sports is popular in both the countries.
That would be a interesingt series and since australia team has come after two decades to visit pakistan, the result of the series will matter a lot. Australia will never want to lose this series and pakistan will be keen to make the history.
