Lots of altcoin advocates haven't understood that Bitcoin is such another thing; it's like a black-hole phenomenon where you're sooner or later gonna get sucked by one way or another. That's how I view it.
It's not ideal in terms of privacy, even though it could be. It was created to seek decentralization and that's where it distinguishes. Perhaps the former's improvement might sacrifice the latter. Scarcity is another thing of the game, but not the main part. The greatest significance is when you combine this kind of uniqueness with this level of decentralization.
Just imagine the term Decentralized was actually used properly.
