We have seen in US FBI have recovered stolen Bitcoin and seized funds worth millions of dollars in bitcoins, not only one time but now this happening quite often... so we can't say that it's not possible to track crypto transactions. It is very much possible.
Yes on the anonymity part you might be right to some extent but once you try to convert you crypto to fiat you know how easy it will be to link your so called "anonymous crypto wallet" to your passport, Goverment id, your selfie, your mobile number or whatever garbage we have been upload to these exchanges.
