Betting in chess sound as a nice way to gamble, the problem is people could use a computer in the hard level to play chess against other people, that way the gamewill be rigged and the winner will be the one with a smarter PC.
So, if you find a place to bet on chess, i would like to recommend you to not place a bet.
I can imagine of that.
But there could be some ways to know that your opponent is the one actually playing it. In that manner, you'll be able to verify that there's no one cheating on the match.
Or, there are platforms and software that would definitely be for the sake of the PvP so that no one uses an AI that nobody knows that he's been cheated on.
Actually, most chess tournaments that had happen online requires an open camera with either a full bust camera or two open cams (one for face and one for hand). Apparently, there are still no events nor betting platforms that offered chess tournament betting online, as there are many things to consider before accepting the tournament and the game itself on a betting platform.
Those considerations to be taken (IMHO) are:
1. The streaming platform that the tournament is being conducted shows their cameras on (as what I indicated above).
2. The game to bet on were happening real-life face-to-face tournaments and also broadcasted online.
Yes, betting on chess is fun. I just don't know why still no platforms adopts it, as no one above 1600+ rating would even dare cheat on chess games. It's a matter of their integrity as well.
