Most of the people also aware about bitcoin IMHO but because of bitcoin market Volatility, lots of people don't start to using it. As you stated, people really think so about bitcoin, what is definitely wrong. Otherwise everyone already stop using it. Besides after get down the price, wise people don't expense their bitcoin rather they would like to keep buying. probably those will be reasons why people refuse to pay with bitcoin but i optimistic that soon they'll overcome the negativity about bitcoin
