The problem is that the politicians are gaining points whatever country they represent. The fact is that if the residents of EU, for instance, will have to pay twice or even thrice their current utility bill costs, they will ask some questions to their politicians. That's how it works. People in Europe, for instance, used to live in comfort for many years with as little as 0-2% yearly inflation, etc. Things may change and those changes may lead to some shift in opinion.
Things had changed rapidly and they could not enjoy the same state as before. Nowadays, people are getting smarter and will ask questions if something doesn't seem to be working as it should, so politicians have to pay attention to their performance. Yes, this has sparked some differences of opinion between them but as long as they can pay attention to the people's interests, they will not get into conflict with each other and even they can work together to help the people.
