I think a lot of good altcoins are used as references. Especially in this bear market time makes many altcoins have cheap prices to have. The main one is ethereum and I think there are more of them like the top 20 coins that are on coinmarketcap. At least it's safe and worth having rather than having to take risks on altcoins that aren't necessarily convincing or new.
I think it's a great idea and another reference in my opinion is CHR. CHR seems to be good and getting stronger because there are already 2 games that use the CHR network and are listed on Binance namely ALICE and DAR, and it seems that the mainnet CHR is also planned to be launched next year:
