I think the ambitions to take the South and East of Ukraine are not the main, but the accompanying goals of Russia in this operation. Moreover, they appeared already during the operation due to Ukraine's unwillingness to voluntarily lay down its arms. The stronger and longer Ukraine resists, the worse the terms of the peace agreement will be for it. Russia does not need a truce for 10-15-20 years, in order to then again step on the same Ukrainian rake.
