This is what I was confused as well. This is the first time that an art contest requires specific artwork such as the indicated MASCOT ART hence some were confused that they will make something out of the chosen MASCOT -- Cheetah. Maybe the context based idea they had at first time looking and reading was that the team were looking for an art for a cheetah WHICH is your mascot -- your representing animal. Glad the team cleared this out before the contest were at its near end.
