I bought a 1988 Volvo 740 saloon about a month ago. I paid less than scrap value for it, and it had a 10 month test certificate on it. Of course it has some minor problems, but I'm fixing those.740s have become classics, so it will probably increase in value over the next few years. It has a massive bonnet on it, so it is really easy to work on the engine, and there are loads of youtube videos about them on the net. I'm really enjoying driving it, especially when I can see new cars on the backs of recovery vehicles, because you need thousand of pounds worth of electronic equipment to diagnose any faults in the car.
