I don't really know how Rennes managed to lose against Nantes yesterday. It was one of the crucial games for Rennes surely but they failed to win. Nantes won by 2-1 and hit them hard. Rennes have dropped to the fifth position in the standings suddenly after this poor result. They were in a race to join the Champions League but now they have a harder job to do. There are only two weeks to go now and I wonder if they'll be able to revert this situation.
This is a pretty fatal mistake for Rennes because with the results they got yesterday they are now thrown into 5th position and it's getting more difficult of course because there are only 2 matches left.
they now have to get up and must not lose again in the last 2 matches if they really want to compete for the top 3 position because the chance is still there although it is quite difficult now considering that Monaco is still quite victorious with their winning streak
It looks like it's over for Rennes, because in the next two matches Rennes got opponents who are clearly not easy because the opponents are Marseille and Lille. Even though for example Rennes can beat Marseille but still, Marseille will be able to maximize in its last match against Strasbourg. Whereas basically, previously I was very confident that Rennes would be able to win against Nantes because they have an advantage in the number of goals that are used as capital to keep competing for the Champions League zone. But in the end Rennes is really not good enough and doesn't have a winning mentality in this tight competition, because Marseille and Monaco are teams that can indeed maintain their performance because they have a better winning mentality in a competition like this.
