They are the great source of information if you are not watching live, they give every details about the games and sometimes educate the viewers as well. Though personally I don't want to hear some commentator because they are bias sometimes and they humiliate other players as well which I think is very inappropriate. In my country, commentators are sometimes like this they are bias and that's why many hates them but still they are active. Well, luckily in international sports we have professional commentators and they really give life to that sports.
Well, they are still humans, so a bit of bias would always be there, though if it was idk, an irregular belief type of bias where it borderlines inappropriate, then ofc that would be wrong. Other than that really, a bias can also make some matches interesting to watch, with emphasis on "some".

In other commentary there’s plenty of times where I’d rather just turn the sound off.
Care to share some of those instances? I'm completely fine with commentary both on and off but I don't think an instance where I willingly turn off a commentary has ever happened. At most, it'd be because I was listening to something more important or me and my frieends were doing our own commentary.
