Your wife told you that he is going to divorce you because you are losing time with your family and you are becoming an irresponsible father and husband.
Given the three situations you have provided, maybe If I am a gambling addict and these were the presented circumstances to me, I would definitely stop gambling the moment I received a news from my doctor that I'm not really doing well and I have to stop gambling for my health. As you can see, the other two scenarios given were not really life threatening. Most people won't be afraid if they would lose their car or even wife. That is just how gambling can be so addicting.
However, if you will give a person an ultimatum regarding their health and the amount of their stay left, they would become conscious of their actions. After all, we just have one body and one life to accommodate us for our stay here on earth. If it will fail and without it, anyone won't be able to gamble no matter how rich they are. Hence, health is really important.
