I was never much sympathetic to the people who got Goxed, because it was their damn fault for storing coins on a centralized exchange.  Even though “not your keys, not your coins” was not yet a meme being stapled to the forehead of every n00b, it was damn obvious from 3-Jan-2009.  You entrusted your coins to some sleazy idiot running a pile of buggy PHP scripts:  Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!  (Yeah, look at me now...)

And they harmed us all indefinitely by giving a significant percentage of the Bitcoin supply as a Sword of Damocles hanging over the market year after year.

In my opinion, the trustee should find the hacker who pwned Gox, and give the coins to him.  If he can't find the hacker, then he should burn the coins in an OP_RETURN output, with the data:  NOT YOUR KEYS, NOT YOUR COINS!
