Miners don't care if they are consuming energy(electricity=water, E-waste = diseases/toxic..) in a bad way that can affect directly people, especially those in poor areas...
People are generally lazy so they don't bother fact-checking stuff they real on the internet. They simply parrot back everything they see if it is advertised well enough such as the nonsense about "energy waste" when mining bitcoin!
