The German industries were flourishing with this cheap gas, and the operator was making a lot of profit by reselling some of this gas to neighboring nations such as Poland. Also, Germany was receiving large quantities of Urals crude through the Druzhba pipeline, and the refineries in the former GDR were making billions of Euros in profit every month.
