I believe the kids you mean here are those below the age of 18 years. Any family who wants their kids to be responsible will not allow them to start gambling at a tender age. Using my country as an example, the constitution does not allow kids to partake in any gambling activity until they are adults so I will not let my kids gamble for any reason till they are up to the age and they also know the implications of what they want to do.

Kids can be protected from gambling in so many ways, do not take them to places where gamblers and gambling activities are done or carried out, never allow them to know that you are a gambler if you are one, do not allow them to be associated with gamblers, educate them about the dangers of gambling and finally, monitor the kind of games or movies they watch so that they can not be influenced by what they see in the internet or movies.
