What is "crypto?" Does it have some kind of relationship to my lil precious?

Definition:
Crypto is the short form for cryptocurrency. Its what the cool kids call Bitcoin because it sounds cooler. Unfortunately this also leads to them buying fake scam coins which are not Bitcoin.
Just to be pedantic, this definition absolutely riles up cryptographers.
