Lauda wasn't banned. He left the forum on his accord and said he was never coming back.
Honestly, worse happened to that account. It wasn't merely banned but it got destroyed, technically. No one can log in from that account according to theymos' assurance which has also been captured in his quote above by other users. I followed that infamous Lauda exit thread while it was fresh.
Security is as important as life for a Bitcoiner. I think a person who is careless with the security of his forum account may also be careless with his keys.
Yes, security is key (no pun intended) but sometimes these things happen and it gets breached. Just imagine if the intruder was able to assess The Pharmacist's email, the whole thing would've looked like TP was careless about the security of his email. I don't think most of those who are victims of hacks are even necessarily careless. It's just a chanced thing upon them.
