In order to regain form before the Asia Cup and the T20 world cup, BCCI selectors want Virat Kohli to play 3 ODIs against Zimbabwe. A failure there will not force him to retire. With the money these players are earning, cricket must be a cruel game. The most important thing is that you are involved in advertising, and they want you to play even if you don't perform. Based on his past performance, how many days can he survive? Several young players are waiting to make their debut in the team, so why don't selectors ignore Virat? In fact, avoiding him is very difficult.
LOL.. so the selectors are saying that Virat Kohli is capable only against weak teams such as Zimbabwe? He is 33 years old and I don't expect him to retire anytime soon. Dhoni went on playing international cricket well in to his late 30s, without becoming a burden to the team. If Kohli can contribute, then I don't see any issues in him playing for India until 2026-27. But he needs to focus on his game. Even now, when he is out of form, I don't see him participating in any domestic cricket tournaments (either in India or outside).
What I would like to understand is what Virat Kohli is doing to improve in cricket. I know he is a talented player and all. However, I don't think even a star player like him is going to be able to improve if he does not try really hard. I also really don't know what he is doing to change his form right now.
Yes playing against weaker opponents and scoring a lot of runs can often increase the confidence of a player. However, that is not going to be helpful for Virat Kohli if he is unable to carry on with the form he showed against Zimbabwe. If he has become a player who can only perform against weaker opponents like Zimbabwe then I don't think the Indian team needs the same. They have a lot of better players.
